Our Institutional Activities

Make-believing we're together

Partner runs a vocational training center with 50 trainees, 4 trainers and a few volunteers. They are categorized into groups according to their intelligence level and cognitive capacity. They are being trained in trades such as making of Dia, Rakhi, Food Processing and Packaging of Spices.

The objective here is to engage them in meaningful work and at the same time training them into a variety of skills and knowledge which makes them employable and partially self-sufficient. They are given an incentive twice a year which varies from person to person depending on their work. Such a move boosts their confidence and generates a source of independent income like mature adults. Without such fruitful engagements, students might display serious behavioral problems.

Partner provides training and employment in their Day Care Services. They are being trained in independent living. In the previous years this marginalized section of persons who were unable to speak for themselves (viz. their needs & rights), and whose parents were their advocates, are now being trained in “Self Advocacy” at Partner. Training programs for the advocates are conducted at Partner and the trainees also participate in workshops in other institutions.

Partner Hooghly conducts training programs for parents, siblings and well-wishers in association with the professionals working in the field of disability, who are also invited to conduct the program.

Our Vocational Training Centre (VTC) is run by trained mothers and female trainers

RAKHI MAKING

We run a Rakhi manufacturing unit in the VTC. The raw materials are purchased by the trainers. The assembling work is carried by our Special Children. They are sorted into various groups according to their ability levels. We are also proud to announce that even chidren with severe mental retardation contribute in a stage of production. It is a proof of our commitment to engage our children into constructive work.

DIYA(PRODIP) MAKING

The raw materials are bought by parents and well wishres. The sophisticated stages of production, like melting and the pouring of the wax into the diya is carried out by the trainees with the higest level of ability. Other stages that require less level of skill like making a wire frame for the wick, packaging are carried out by other trainees.

Spices , jams, sauce and aachar are manufactured by our trainees . Various stages of the work is done according to the trainee’s ability of skill

SPORTS

Our annual sports is held every winter in association with a local club in an integrated manner with sporting events of general children. This provides an excellent opportunity for our children, their parents and siblings to interact with the general public, both young and adult. Interaction between our children and general children and parents not only creates visibility for our children but also creates a social sphere of awareness.

PICNIC

Our annual picnic with our chidren, parents and well-wishers is also an important event in our social calender as it encourages interaction.

EXCURSION

For our annual excursion children travel to various parts of India under the supervision of parents, well-wishers and trainers. Our children have already travelled to places like Haridwar, Kanyakumari , Rajgir and many more.
