Our Story

Partnering the weird, where sanity retreats, life pulses

A labour of love unites us. Our purpose is to stand behind the children whom the society marginalizes, the world holds incapable of carrying a normal life. We are a bunch of parents and well-wishers who have come together to help mentally challenged young adults fight for their right to equality in society. Our dreams are humble but our aims are high. We want our children to smile and express themselves freely, we want to see them fly and we want to give wind to their wings.

It all started in 1993, when a few guardians with the support of a group of well-wishers who wished to secure a better future for their children established Partner with an aim to provide special training to mentally challenged young adults. The journey since has been long and satisfying and today there are 50 of us, guardians of these special children and numerous well-wishers, marching towards our dreams.

We are based in Bandel with a branch in Chandannagar and we work to integrate these persons to the main stream society by making them confident and responsible human beings. We also work to raise awareness among the society so that they can welcome our children with open arms.

The challenge for us was to retain in our children, the skills and qualities which special school trains them till 18. Once reaching adulthood, it becomes an uphill task for them to hold on to such skills. Our aim is to provide a long-term and active guidance to these young adults, to make them confident and employable. Our facility is run completely by our parents, mothers of the children trained for the purpose carry on the active care, while the fathers and well-wishers assist the official and administrative work. Most of them are rendering voluntary service. We also bring in trained psychologists and resourceful people on a timely basis for our children.
